I am a University of Minnesota graduate with a double major in philosophy and history, and several years of experience in collegiate forensics (competitive public speaking). Over the last several years I have successfully tutored high school and college students, helping all improve their academic performance in a variety of subjects. I specialize in tutoring in essay writing and reading comprehension, both key elements of standardized testing for PSAT, SAT, and ACT, as well as success in high school and college courses. I also tutor high school and college level history and philosophy. When teaching essay writing, I help students learn how to go from a blank piece of paper to a effective essay. I do this by assisting them in developing the tools, outlines, and knowledge to repeat the process with confidence, even under challenging time pressure. I am passionate about providing students with the encouragement and knowledge they need to master the form and express themselves clearly in writing. I also teach research skills for term papers, research papers, History Day or other projects and can help a student find, process, and cite information from both primary and secondary sources. My overall goal in tutoring is to help my students with specific issues they are facing, and teach them the tools and methods to attack learning and writing confidently on their own. My methods include homework assignments and check in calls to ensure they stay on track. I am available Tuesday-Saturday from 12 pm-10 pm and Sunday from 12 pm- 4 pm, and am willing to travel to meet with you in your location. I am willing to meet with you for a free consultation meeting so that I can understand your needs and develop a strategy to help you. My base rate is $25/hour and can offer a discounted rate for a tutoring package of 4 or more sessions. I look forward to working with you to help with your academic success.
